Will You Keep Your Kid In A Pen?

We arrived in the familiar and beloved Sonoran Desert of Arizone almost three months ago, excited to be here with a good hospital to work in, and a nice, albeit very expensive RV park far out on the fringe of humanity.  When we secured this contract in early October, the scramble commenced to find an RV park that was not "age restricted" or "adult living".  Last year when we were working here, we found a great park out on Lake Pleasant, but this year we are on the other end of town and luckily found the park we are in now.  Unfortunately, our reservation expires before our contract does, and the park has no open sites.  So now the scramble to find an RV park ensues........

Of the literally hundreds of RV parks in the East Valley, there are essentially less than 10 that "allow kids".  Of those, none have open sites.  One place I called said they were not age restricted, but when I mentioned our 3.5 year old son, he paused, and with trepidation said "Well, will he be in the RV most of the day.......or, or......in a pen of some sort?"  OK, so you think my kid should be in a pen?  I hung up immediately.

So that's how it goes here in Arizona.  You can have two yippy, yappy, barking rat dogs in your RV that bark at everyone, but you can't have a well behaved kid who cries once and a while.  I get it.

  1. So frustrating! After spending a year on the road with my son (2-3 at the time), we found that the loudest campers were usually NOT the children (with a few exceptions, of course). Did you wind up finding a place that would take you?

  2. Yeah, we have a couple options. Unfortunately they are all 25 or more miles from work, just like last year. Oh well.

  3. Totally get it. We have the luxury of being able to stay on base at famcamps, and they are a lot more welcoming of kids. And right now as I type our childless neighbors have their TV cranked so loud I thought ours was on, and scolded my DH for watching that shoot'em up stuff with the kids awake.
