Weiss Visit

Mom and sister came to town for the second time this summer, and once again, scored with perfect weather, low winds, successful crabbing, whale watching, and some salmon catching.
Pulled about 8 keepers out of 25 or so crab.

Naha River trail

Where the Naha River comes out of the skookumchuck into Naha Bay

The tidal race from the lagoon to the bay.  This boardwalk is actually a skiff board walk to transfer boats around the rapids if you don't time the slack tide right.

Sharing space with billionaires from a 150' yacht nearby.

Smoked salmon, cream cheese, and stale crackers.

Poor people eating like kings.

The weather this summer has been very nice.

Fish on, fish off.

July brought good fishing for pinks, which many of the locals turn their noses up at.  We like them.  They have a good mild flavor, and as long as they are "dime bright", they are quite tasty smoked, baked, or whatever.  The pink season has since come and gone, now we are waiting for the coho to come in.

Taking a tour of a Canadian coast guard ship that was in town.

The summer has seemed really mild in terms of rain.

Fill the freezer.

The bears were back again.

Still making fires on beaches and islands.

The crabbing boats are in town working as tenders.  Hauling fish from the seiners to the fish processing plants.

Busy chain of seiners heading out.

Weird run of smolt pinks.  Caught a bunch of these, and of course, released them all.

Tetons

Went to the Tetons for a week with my brother and his kids.  He originally wanted to climb Rainier, but I wasn't that psyched to guide them up that mountain, even though I've climbed it a few times.  So we opted for the Tetons.  Better weather, less logistics, lower commitment.

We warmed up on a scramble route on Symmetry Spire, then took a day off and went for a long slog up Middle Teton to get a little more acclimated, then took two days off and climbed the Grand via the OS route.  Fun week, and it was even more fun watching the kids progress in the mountains and moving swiftly by the end of the week.

Pics are out of order.  Too lazy to organize them.
